First ever erected Christmas tree in Kobanî deliberately burnt
KOBANI, Syria – On Saturday morning, the people of Kobanî woke up to the news of the burning of the Christmas tree which had been placed a few days ago in Martyr Akid Square for the first time. The Christmas tree idea was suggested and placed by the Women’s Office in the People’s Municipality of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Co-Chair of the People’s Municipality in Kobanî Roshen Abdi condemned the deliberate act: “Investigations are underway and the DAA Internal Security Forces (ISF) are doing their duty,” Abdi said.
Abdi expressed her regret at the burning of the tree saying the municipality is keen to erect a new tree for celebrations.
