Iraqi parliamentarians call for halt to Turkish military operations in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD — Iraqi parliamentarians, including MPs Sarkot Shamseddine, Ghaleb Muhammad Ali and Kawa Mohammed, called on the Iraqi Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to put an end to the ongoing Turkish military campaign in northern Iraq.

The Turkish military occupation of northern Iraq, which has built dozens of military bases on Iraqi territory, is a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a formal complaint should be made with the United Nations Security Council.

The Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government have not taken official position against the Turkish military campaign in the country’s north despite the mass displacement of thousands of Iraqi civilians, dozens of civilian casualties, and the deaths of three members of Iraq’s security forces.
