Syrian Democratic Spokesperson Kino Gabriel: Goal of Al-Hol security operation is to allow camp residents to live peacefully and freely

HASAKAH, Syria — In an interview with the Syriac Military Council’s (MFS) Media Center, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) spokesperson Kino Gabriel clarified the SDF’s role in the security campaign being carried out by the Internal Security Forces (ISF) of North and East Syria in Al-Hol Refugee Camp.

Gabriel stated that the SDF has been providing intelligence reports and support to the ISF while they attempt to stamp out the Islamic State presence in the camp.

The aim of the operation, dubbed the Humanity and Security Campaign, is to identify the persons involved in the recent violent attacks in the camp which have claimed the lives of a dozens of people living in the camp. The operation is particularly targeting individuals involved in the unsanctioned “morality police” and Shariah courts established by ISIS sympathizers and members in the camp. People who are working to spread extremist ideology to children in the camp are also being sought.

Gabriel stated that the ultimate goal of the campaign is to secure the camp so that its residents can live peacefully and freely until they can return to their homes.

In another interview, this time with ISF spokesperson Ali Hassan, he stressed that the campaign with the SDF aims to eliminate the assassination operations that have taken place since the beginning of the year in the camp, which has so far claimed 47 lives.

The MFS Media Center also interviewed the spokesman of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), Nouri Mahmoud, who spoke about the dangers of ISIS terrorists inside the camp and the need to find a long-term solution to the problem.

Mahmoud said that after the Turkish occupation army occupied several areas in North and East Syria and set up several training centers for its proxy groups there, the ISIS members in Al-Hol Camp have attempted to breakout of the camp and reach Turkish occupied territory.
