JÎN Women’s Association: Akitu, like Newroz, is an occasion to renew the promise of adhering to the culture of tolerance and brotherhood among the peoples

BEIRUT – Head of the JÎN Women’s Association Bushra Ali sent a letter to the President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad on the occasion of the Babylonian New Year Akitu. Ali stated that the oppressed peoples have, since ancient times, celebrated common feasts of joy with the advent of spring, symbolizing the freedom of their people, “the Kurdish New Year Newroz and the Syriac-Assyrian New Year Akitu are the best examples of these feasts.”

“Since then, the Kurdish and Syriac-Assyrian peoples annually celebrate the advent of spring as an expression of, firstly, their adherence to the spirit of nature, land, air, and water, and, secondly, as basic elements and building blocks for a good life and the free existence of peoples and nations. To live in harmony with the free laws of nature is the basic foundation for all our eastern peoples in general, and for the Syriac-Assyrian and Kurdish people in particular,” head of the JÎN Women’s Association Bushra Ali added.

Bushra Ali concluded with congratulations on Akitu in the name of JÎN Women’s Association, as the occasion “to renew the promise of adhering to the culture of tolerance and brotherhood among the peoples. Our inspiration finds common ground in our concrete joint experience in North and East Syria, which will turn into a revolutionary flame that will illuminate the path of all oppressed peoples.”
