Syrian regime forces continue to suffer casualties in ISIS attacks in and around Syrian desert

HEMTO, Syria — The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has suffered more casualties in its unsuccessful attempts to clear the Syrian desert (Badia) of Islamic State (ISIS) cells, despite Russian air support.

On Tuesday, ISIS elements launched another surprise attack in the Syrian desert, targeting regime-held areas around Zwaina and areas in the Uqayribat sub-district in the eastern countryside of Hemto (Hama), killing and wounding several regime fighters.

Eight members of the Syrian police and 11 civilians were also reportedly kidnapped from Al-Saan sub-district. The latest abductions are in addition to about 40 other cases of missing people in the area, prompting the deployment of regime reinforcements.
