24 U.S. Representatives urge Biden Administration to assist Lebanon

WASHINGTON, D.C. / BEIRUT — As the crippling economic and political crisis in Lebanon continues and the failure to form a government drags on, 24 members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter addressed to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urging him to take measures that would ease the economic situation in Lebanon, help the Lebanese people, and prevent the deterioration of the security situation.

In their letter, the Representatives called for meetings to be held with Lebanese partners who have ideas compatible with U.S. principles of democracy with the aim of coordinating the financial aid program and providing direct humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable and needy groups. The Representatives also called for the provision of additional assistance to the Lebanese Army and conducting a transparent and impartial investigation into the Beirut Port explosion.
