IRAQ: Dhi Qar residents storm governorate headquarter in protest

DHI QAR, Iraq — Several months ago, residents of Dhi Qar Governorate in southern Iraq, including hundreds of students, took to the streets, demanding basic services and job opportunities.

Still angry over the lack of governmental response to their complaints, dozens of residents demonstrated and stormed the governorate building in protest on Monday.

Demonstrators also went to Al-Haboubi Square, the center of demonstrations in the city, and demanded the dismissal of the local government and denounced the ongoing assassinations of activists.

Large demonstrations are planned for this week in Baghdad to demand accountability for the targeting of protestors and activists.
