New Democratic Autonomous Administration representation office to open in Switzerland
GENEVA – To increase diplomatic relations and cooperation with European countries on the dossier of Islamic State detainees, the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria will open a representation office in Switzerland. The new DAA office will officially be opened during a ceremony on August 9, 2021.
The DAA representative in Switzerland Hikmat Ibrahim said in an interview with Xeber24 that the representation office will work to inform and participate in international forums and politically cooperate with sovereign countries on the dossier of Islamic State detainees and their families held in camps in North and East Syria. The Islamic State detainees and camps in particular constitute a heavy burden on the DAA.
The DAA has several representations in European countries such as Belgium and France. Some representation offices were previously closed or centralized. The Democratic Autonomous Administration representation offices are also intended to bring about international recognition for the inclusive and democratic model as an alternative to the decades-long rule of the Ba’ath regime over the Syrian Arab Republic and the rule of Islamist extremists over parts of the country.
