Sami Grigo Baydar, Syriac candidate for upcoming German Bundestag elections
AUGSBURG, Germany – Augsburger Syriac Sami Grigo Baydar has gathered enough votes to run for the German federal elections which will be held on September 26, 2021. Grigo Baydar was able to gather 2,000 votes in local elections giving him the right to run for the federal elections. Grigo Baydar is a candidate in the state of Bavaria for the Bundestag elections for the Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany (MLDP, Marxist-Leninistische Partei Deutschlands).
Born and raised in Augsburg, Bavaria, the 29-year-old kiosk owner Sami Grigo Baydar is an activist journalist, writer, and teacher of the Syriac language. He is a leading member of the activist People’s Council of Syriacs in Europe (Volksrats der Suryoye in Europa).

In his introduction as a candidate Grigo Baydar says that he, if chosen, will be the voice for the rights of the Syriac people in the German parliament and will represent his oppressed Syriac people, irrespective of their individual name-affiliation, as well as all other peoples suffering from oppression;
“I am a member and speaker of the Volksrats der Suryoye in Europa [People’s Council of Suryoye in Europe]. The Syriacs are the Arameans, Assyrians, Chaldeans, and also the Maronites and Melkites.”
“One of my main matters of concern is the international solidarity with left-wing activists, artists such as Grup Yorum and the People’s Lawyers in Turkey, some of whom are also being prosecuted here in Germany in close cooperation with the government of the Turkish state.”
