Syriac activist Teodora Özdemir Hobel arbitrarily arrested by Turkish authorities from her home on Sunday morning, released several hours later
MIDYAT, Turkey — Several more political opponents of the Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP) have been arrested during campaigns launched by authorities in Batman, Midyat, Mardin, Azakh, and other areas.
Syriac activist Teodora Özdemir Hobel, who is an official of the Syriac Women’s Gathering in Midyat and a member of Syriac Clubs Association in Iwardo (Ain Ward), was one of those arrested in her home in the early hours on Sunday morning.
She was released in the evening of the same day thanks to the efforts of her attorney.
As part of its campaign of harassment and arbitrary arrests, Syriac member of the People’s Democratic Assembly, Yohanon Aktash, was also arrested.
Co-Chairs of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (Halkların Demokratik Partisi, HDP) and other activists were among those arrested.
