Syrian Democratic Forces spokesperson Aram Hanna: Turkish occupation escalates its violations across North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria — The Turkish occupation and its Syrian National Army (SNA) proxies continue to launch repeated attacks on the regions of North and East Syria.

Spokesperson of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Aram Hanna stated on Sunday that Turkey has continued its campaign of indiscriminate shelling of Shahba, Mabbug (Manbij), Ayn Issa, and Tel Tamr. The northern villages of Tel Tamr — specifically Dardara, Mujibra, Sheikh Ali, Qobor al-Gharajneh, and Timar (Umm al-Keif) — and Ayn Issa have been particularly targeted.

The bombing caused material damage to civilian property, but no casualties were reported.

During the past two days, stated Hanna, they had recorded about 150 shells falling throughout the region, including mortars used by the SNA.

He stressed that the SDF, through the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) and the Tel Tamr Military Council, have taken the necessary defensive measures to ensure the security and protection of civilians, as well as transferring those who left their villages to safer areas.

Two weeks ago, a Turkish tank targeted a civilian area killing four and leaving two wounded. All those killed and injured were from the same family. Three children 12 years old and younger were killed.

Those killed in the attack were Zidan Khalaf al-Issa (54), Ziyad al-Issa (12), Muna Khalaf al-Issa, and Huda Khalaf al-Issa.

A woman and her one-year-old girl were critically wounded and brought to Raqqa hospital for treatment. Hanna pointed out that their forces responded to the source of the fire and said that Russia, the guarantor of a ceasefire supposed to be in force since October 2019, has played a generally positive role in controlling these violations but has not done nearly enough. The SDF has emphasized increasing the efforts of the Russian armed forces to control the lines of contact and stop the Turkish violations.
