Linköping, Sweden – Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday night , a Syriac resident of Linköping was shot dead in the street in the Lambahov neighborhood by an unknown person(s). When the police arrived at the scene, they found a seriously injured person lying on the ground. The Syriac person was taken to hospital but doctors could not save him anymore.
He was on his way home from a working visit to acquaintances when he was shot dead. The Syriac man was 34 years old and father of three children. Neighborhood residents expressed their concerns and fear in statements to Swedish radio. In the last 5 months, 4 people have been shot dead in Linköping and all the perpetrators are all still on the run.
On Friday, a memorial march was held in the neighborhood for the shot Syriac.
The Syriac community in Linköping, a city of 100 thousand, has several thousand members. In all of Sweden there are between 140 and 150 thousand Syriacs.
