LEBANON: Syriac Melkite Patriarch Mor Youssef Absi meets Lebanese ECOSOC head Charles Arbid on social and economic issues
RABWAH, Lebanon – Syriac Melkite Patriarch Mor Youssef Absi of the Greek Catholic Church, received the President of the Lebanese Economic and Social Council, Charles Arbid, at the Patriarchate’s headquarters in Rabwa. Mor Youssef Absi was extensively informed by Mr. Arbid about the economic and social realities Lebanon is currently going through.
They discussed the problem of the new widespread poverty, increased migration, continuity of schools and education, and the need to improve wages, as well as the issue of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the need to hold them in time to renew political life in Lebanon.
The two also discussed the participatory meeting organized by the Economic and Social Council with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
The Syriac Melkite Catholic Church is a member of the Middle East Council of Churches. The other Syriac churches which are members of the Middle East Council of Churches are the Syriac Orthodox, Syriac Catholic, Syriac Maronite, Syriac Chaldean Catholic churches, and Syriac Protestant denominations.
