SYRIA: Legislative Council of Gozarto Region Co-Chair Ahmed discusses Political Parties Law with SuroyoTV

GOZARTO REGION, North and East Syria — In an interview with SuroyoTV, Co-Chair of the Legislative Council of Gozarto (Jazira) Region in North and East Syria Aria Mulla Ahmed outlined the progress made by the Democratic Autonomous Administration’s (DAA) in developing the Political Parties Law.

“The law was amended in 2018 by Decree No. 6 to establish the Political Parties Licensing Committee consisting of Co-Chairs of the DAA Legislative Council, one Co-Chair of the Interior Authority, one Co-Chair of the Social Justice Council, one Co-Chair of the Social Affairs and Labor Authority, and the High Elections Commission,” she continued.

“The amendment also raised the number of founding members of any party from 100 to 300,” Ahmed added.

Ahmed stated that the matters required to license any party include that the party’s bylaws conform to the Social Contract of Gozarto Region, in addition to not being opposed to the democratic system on which the DAA is built.

Ahmed also stated that if any party had either a military force or its funding was unknown or from external sources that are hostile to the DAA, it would not be licensed.

“The license of any party will be withdrawn if its membership drops below 300, it maintains a military force, or it violates the DAA Social Contract,” she concluded.
