Khabur resistance had an important role in protecting Democratic Autonomous Administration from Islamic State control

KHABUR REGION, Syria – The Khabur resistance remembrance event was held by institutions of the Syriac (Aramean–Chaldean–Assyrian) people in the village of Tel Hermez, to remember the Syriac martyrs who fought against Islamic State in the 2015 ISIS attack on the Khabur Valley. 

The SyriacPress news desk conducted interviews with several attendees of the remembrance event.

Internal Security Forces official in Hasakah Abgar Hasakah stated that the seventh anniversary of the Khabur resistance in Tel Hermez was secured his forces. He stated that the “comrades of the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) showed fierce resistance against ISIS attack in 2015,” and declared that the Syriac people have remained in their historical land of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and pledge to defend it with sincerity and honor in the path of the martyrs.

Activist in the Hasakah canton Khaled Jabr stated that the MFS has always been at the forefront in confronting Islamic State. In cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, they defended the dignity of their people and land. “Let mercy be on our heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in order to protect their homeland and humanity from ISIS,” Jabr said.

Attempts to make the area of the Khabur Region a separate canton for the Suraye people have so far been unsuccessful.
