Swedish delegation visits Foreign Relations Commission of North and East Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On Monday, a Swedish delegation led by Head of Consular Affairs and Civil Law Frédéric Florn and his Deputy Christine Hedenberg, arrived at the headquarters of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East SYria in Zalin (Qamishli).

The delegation was received by Co-Chair of the Commission Abdul Karim Omar, Commission official in Europe Shewaz Khalil, and Public Relations Officer of the Women’s Protection Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Jin, YPJ) Lana Hussein.

The two sides discussed the economic and humanitarian situation in the region in general and North and East Syria in particular.

“The recent attack of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Al-Sina’a Prison led to dozens of martyrs from the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF], prison workers, and some civilians,” said Omar, demanding the international community do more to provide political, economic, relief and security support to the DAA.

He also stressed the importance of rehabilitating the communities that remained under ISIS rule for years, to prevent ISIS re-emergence.

Florn appreciated the sacrifices made by the DAA and the residents.

“We have discussed important issues on security and humanitarian levels and ways to combat terrorism in North and East Syria,” he said. “We affirm our continued support for the DAA in its struggle against terrorism.”
