People of Khabur in North and East Syria celebrate Akitu 6772
KHABUR, Syria — On the 6772nd Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, Akitu, the Syriac Union Party (SUP) and Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) organized a joint celebration in Tel Arboush village in the Khabur River Valley in North and East Syria.
Political figures, representatives of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA), and members of various political parties, as well as a large number of Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) attended the celebration. Several media outlets, including Suroyo TV, were present to cover the event.
The celebration began with a minute of silence for the souls of the martyrs. Then, the SUP-ADO Document of Understanding was read by Abeer Eleya who said that this document is a historic achievement for the Syriac people in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and the diaspora because of its role in meeting the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and further representing them in all local and international forums.
After that, Hiba Asia delivered a speech on behalf of the SUP in which she congratulated the Syriac people on Akitu. Nabil Oshana then delivered a speech on behalf of the ADO.
The Dar Abd al-Masih Qarabashi folk troupe then performed traditional songs.
A speech was then delivered by Yasser Suleiman on behalf of the DAA in which he congratulated all the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and other peoples of the region on Akitu. The celebration of various cultural holidays is an example of coexistence and equality between peoples, which are the values of the DAA, said Suleiman.
Head of the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) Ilham Matli also delivered a speech.
The celebration was concluded with folk songs by artist Bassam Bitar and his band.
The Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) and Sutoro Women secured the event.
