Iranian militias control Tadmorto (Palmyra) military airport, loses a number of its commanders to aerial bombardment
HMOTH, Syria — Iranian militias took control of the Tadmorto (Palmyra) Military Airport in rural Hmoth (Homs), Syria, after Russian troops withdrew.
With the consent of the Syrian regime, Iranian militias continue to proliferate across the country, exploiting the weakness of the Syrian regime after a decade of civil war in pursuit of their expansionist aspirations. The increased Iranian presence in the country has made a political resolution to the Syrian Civil War more difficult.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Russian forces withdrew completely from the Palmyra Military Airport in eastern rural Hmoth and headed towards the T-4 airport. The Palmyra Military Airport then fell under the control of Lebanese Hezbollah and the Iranian-backed Afghan Fatimyon group. Officers of the Syrian regime are also reported stationed at the airport.
In other news, Iranian militias present in the town of Al-Bukamal came under aerial bombardment by unidentified aircraft carrying out several sorties along the Syrian–Iraqi border.
The bombing targeted the headquarters of Hajj Askar, the military commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Al-Bukamal and two houses of other IRGC commanders.
The raids killed three militia members, including IRGC intelligence officer Zahqan Mahid, and left five others wounded.
