Delegation from Assyrian institutions visits Syriac Union Party in Hasakah, North and East Syria
HASAKAH, Syria — A delegation of several civilian and military institutions of the Assyrian community in North and East Syria, including the Assyrian Democratic Party, Assyrian Martyrs’ Families Foundation, the Absentee Property Committee, the Natura Forces (Assyrian Internal Security Forces), and the Khabur Guards (MNK) visited the headquarters of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) and Sutoro (Syriac Internal Security Forces) in Hasakah.
The delegation was received by the joint chairmanship of the SUP and members of the Executive Committee and the party’s General Council.
The groups discussed party and community relations.
The meeting is one of a series of steps being taken by the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) political parties and civil institutions in North and East Syria to improve intracommunal relations and consolidate political action. Recently, a Document of Understanding was signed between several political parties that brought together the political objectives, vision, and national demands of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.
As the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community seeks to improve internal relations, external actors, namely Turkey, have escalated attacks on the predominantly Syriac–Assyrian Khabur River Valley, likely in hopes of undermining political progress in the region.
During the Easter holiday period, areas inhabited by Christian Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) were particularly targeted, resulting in the death of a member of the Assyrian Khabur Guards and the wounding of a number of other military personnel.
During their meeting, the parties discussed the security and military situation in Khabur and the ongoing Turkish bombardment of civilian areas.
