Syriac organizations in Hasakah, North and East Syria, congratulate Msgr. Joseph Shamee on new appointment

HASAKAH, Syria — After his appointment years ago as Patriarchal Vicar of the Syriac Catholic Diocese of Hasakah-Nisibis, Msgr. Joseph Shamee was elected archbishop.

A delegation from Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) organizations and institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) visited the Syriac Catholic Archdiocese to congratulate the newly elected archbishop on assuming his new duties in Hasakah.

Member of the Executive Council of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria, Hasakah Branch, Sawsan Abdel Ahad stated that the visit took place to congratulate the archbishop and demonstrate the MUB support.

She added that the delegation was warmly welcomed by Archbishop Shamee.

The importance of coexistence between the ethnic groups of North and East Syria in their historical land was emphasized during the visit.

All the issues related to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and their livelihood, the status quo in the region and Syria, and its impact on the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and their existence were touched on.
