Memorial vigil held in Iraq on Martyr’s Day and 89th anniversary of Simele massacre

ANKAWA, Iraq — The mayor of Ankawa District, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), in cooperation with the Syriac Writers Union, held a memorial in front of Mar Youssef Cathedral in Akawa to mark Martyr’s Day and the 89th anniversary of the Simele massacre.

The memorial began with the ringing of the cathedral bells for 5 minutes, followed by a silent prayer.

The memorial was attended by Bishop Mar Shimon Daniel, Mayor of Ankawa Ramy Noori Siawish, and a number of government officials, representatives of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties, and a number of intellectuals and writers.
