Human rights organizations release reports on toll of Iranian regime’s violent repression of demonstrations
TEHRAN / OSLO / ROME — International reports revealed that with the current calendar year drawing to a close, Iran has witnessed, in the past three months, a large wave of protests and demonstrations against the Iranian regime, with the escalation of violence and killing by the Iranian regime’s apparatus.
On Monday, 26 December, human rights organization in Iran Hrana announced in its annual report on the violation of the basic rights of the Iranian people that in 2022, the Iranian judiciary executed 565 people, including 11 women and 5 children. According to the 63-page report, executions had increased by 88% compared to 2021.
On Wednesday, Norway-based Iranian Human Rights Organization announced that the death toll in the popular uprising of Iranians against the regime has reached at least 476 citizens, including 64 children and 34 women. The organization published a list of at least 100 demonstrators arrested by the regime who are at risk of being sentenced to death or executed.
In this regard, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani summoned the Iranian Ambassador of Italy to protest the unacceptable suppression of peaceful demonstrations led by women in Iran.
Iranian chess player Sarah Khadem expressed solidarity with the protests in her country by participating in international chess tournaments without wearing a headscarf.
On Tuesday, the newspapers Khabar Wazrshi and Etemad reported that Khadem competed in the Blitz and Rapid chess championships of the International Chess Federation, which were held in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, without wearing a headscarf.
