Beth Nahrain Organization for Women represents Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people at 25th Arabian Gulf Cup cultural events in Basra, Iraq

BASRA, Iraq — The Beth Nahrain Organization for Women (BNOW) participated in the cultural events organized in Basra, Iraq, around the 25th Gulf Cup.

The BNOW represented the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people during the “Basra Promotes Iraq’s Heritage to a Bright Future” event organized under the auspices of the National Security Adviser and took place in the Palm Trunk Stadium in Basra and in the Peace Tent in the Shatt al-Arab Corniche.



The festive cultural events were covered by media outlets from across the Arabian Gulf. The stated aim of the events was to communicate that all ethnic and religious components of Iraq are united by their shared heritage, civilization, and history and wish peace for all peoples.

The BNOW delegation was headed by BNOW President Hanan Matti Tuma and consisted of members from Baghdede (Qaraqosh), Bartella, and Karamlesh in Nineveh Plains. The Syriac Folklore Troupe from Baghdede also participated in the festivities and held heritage performances in traditional costume. 

Parallel to the activities, the delegation visited the churches of Basra, including the Syriac Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart and the Syriac Orthodox Church of Virgin Mary.

Iraq beat Oman in the Gulf Cup final with a score of 3–2.
