Foreign Relations Commission of North and East Syria receives French government delegation

BETH ZALIN, Syria — Deputy Co-Chair in the Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria, Rubel Baho, announced they received an official diplomatic delegation from the French government to discuss the recent developments in the region and the repercussions of the Turkish attacks.

The meeting took place at the Foreign Relations Commission’s office in Beth Zalin (Qamishli). The French delegation was headed by the Director of the Crisis Management and Support Center of  the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Romatet, who was accompanied by a technical delegation. The French delegation was received by Co-Chair Baho and members of the Commission’s Administrative Body Khalid Ibrahim and Gulistan Ali, according to comments made by Baho to Suyoyo TV.

They discussed the recent military escalation by Turkey in October of last year, which has resulted in numerous civilian deaths and the direct assassination of civil administrators in drone attacks.

They also discussed the rapprochement between the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and head of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad. The Commission stated that the Turkish move to normalize relations with the Syrian regime will only worsen the conflict in Syria and undermine efforts for a political solution in the country.

Romatet indicated that the French government is closely following developments in North and East Syria, stressing that it will continue its support for the peoples of North and East Syria the continued functioning of the DAA. He stated that there is a need to support a variety of sectors in North and East Syria, especially the delivery of health services, the availability of safe, potable water, and continued agricultural production. Work will be done to improve these sectors, he concluded.
