The Bethnahrin National Council calls on all Syriacs and the peoples of Mesopotamia to come to the aid of the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria

BETHNAHRIN — The Presidency of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) issued a statement on Monday, in which it addressed the traumatic material and human effects of the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on the sixth of February. The MUB statement urged the people of Bethnahrin (Mesopotamia) and Anatolia to assist with all possible means the victims of the disastrous earthquake.

“Along with the other peoples of the region, our Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people were severely affected by the earthquake and suffered great human suffering and material losses, especially in the cities of Adiyaman, Antioch, Aleppo, and Latakia where churches and monasteries were severely damaged and tens of members of our people lost their lives,” the MUB statement read. It called on all Syriacs to help the victims; “We must all work together to overcome the consequences of this terrible tragedy and assist those affected.”

“The Bethnahrin National Council therefore calls on all our people, whether in the homeland or in the Diaspora, and on all humanitarian and civil organizations to come to the aid of the earthquake victims, both financially and materially, so that their wounds can be healed quickly and their material losses alleviated and responded to.”

“Only hand in hand and with great sacrifice can we overcome these difficult and bitter days,” the MUB statement concluded.
