SyriacCross sends first truckload of clothes from Midyat to Samandağ

MIDYAT, Tur Abdin — Today, the SyriacCross Organization for Relief and Development sent the first truckload of blankets and jackets toward the earthquake disaster area in Hatay Province. The clothes are intended for the severely damaged city of Samandağ, where there is a large Christian community.

The relief supplies were raised by the Suryoye Aid Network International in which SyriacCross, the Schlomo Foundation in the Netherlands, and SCHlomo Switzerland partner, with funding from the Shai Fund, A Demand for Action, and the Syriac diaspora.

The Federation of Syriac Associations in Turkey, SÜDEF (Süryani Dernekler Federasyonu), played a mediating role in getting relief supplies and transportation arranged on the ground in Midyat. SÜDEF President Evgil Türker-Maqdesi Elyas commented on a video on the Schlomo Foundation Netherlands Twitter page:

“We are here in Midyat, and our load of emergency aid is ready to be transported to Samandağ, Antioch. We thank the Shai Fund, A Demand for Action, SyriacCross and the Schlomo Foundation for their quick response and assistance to those in need. As SÜDEF, we have mediated here on the ground to get help for the earthquake victims up and running as quickly as possible.”
