German historian discusses Germany’s role in Sayfo Genocide during Wiesbaden lecture
WIESBADEN, Germany — The Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) in Wiesbaden, Germany, marked the 108th anniversary of the Sayfo Genocide by hosting a lecture titled “The 1915 Genocide and Germany’s Role in It”.
German historian Manfred Seidler delivered the lecture and confirmed that the Ottoman Empire committed mass killings, displacement, and plundered the property of the Armenians, Greeks, Syriacs–Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans–Maronites, and all Christians in many areas.
Seidler based his lecture on various documents, reports, and correspondences he had with official figures, as well as German, Austrian, and US ambassadors and other diplomats from foreign governments in Turkey.
In addition to discussing military cooperation between Germany and Turkey, Seidler criticized Germany’s silence on the massacres and prioritizing its own interests over human values. He highlighted the importance of utilizing documents and scientific methods while remaining objective in such dossiers.
