European Syriac Union Co-Chair Fehmi Vergili calls on Syriac people to commemorate Sayfo Genocide to convey their issue to the world

BETH NAHRIN — During the Suroyo TV program Orucutho presented by Carlos Hanna, Co-Chair of the European Syriac Union (ESU) Fehmi Vergili highlighted the importance of commemorating the 1915 Sayfo Genocide, in order to convey the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) issue to the world and global public opinion.

He declared that the ESU has prepared a complete program for this year’s remembrance.

“ESU seeks to present 2 documentaries about the history of the Genocide to Syriac people in all areas of their presence,” he added.

Vergili announced that the activities will begin on 14th June, at 11:00 p.m., by lighting candles in various regions in Europe and the homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia), indicating that lighting candles symbolizes lighting the way after the darkness in which Syriac people languished during the Genocide.

Vergili stated that the remembrance will take place in many places, in front of the Genocide Memorial in Brussels and in front of the Suryoyo House building in Hengelo.

It will be held in front of the Genocide Memorial in Giessen, Delmenhorst and Gütersloh in Germany.

It will also be held in Örebro, Sweden and Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, as well as in other regions of the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in Iraq.

Vergili called on churches and institutions of the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people to commemorate the 1915 Sayfo Genocide on 15th June, which is date that was set by Syriac people institutions.

The remembrance events in all regions will be broadcasted live by Suroyo TV.
