Ancient Church of the East in Iraq celebrates the consecration of Patriarch Mor Gorgis III Younan
ANKAWA, Iraq — Yesterday, the Ancient Church of the East in Iraq celebrated the consecration of Patriarch Mor Gorgis III Younan as Patriarch of the Ancient Church of the East, in the Virgin Mary Cathedral, in Baghdad, Iraq.
In ceremony was attended by official and governmental figures, representatives of political parties of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people, a large number of representatives of churches and the Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq and a large crowd of believers.
After former patriarch of the Ancient Church of the East Mor Eddie II Gorgis passed away, the Holy Synod of the Ancient Church of the East convened to elect Mor Gorgis III Younan as its 110th Catholicos-Patriarch.
On this occasion, the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) sent a congratulatory telegram to the Patriarch and the Ancient Church of the East in general, asking God to give the new Patriarch wisdom to serve the issues of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people and the rest of the Iraqi peoples, and work for the consolidation of human concepts and faith life.
