Escalating displacement in Turkish-occupied Syria, families seeking refuge in Autonomous Administration areas
RAQQA, Syria — Amidst widespread criminality in the Turkish-occupied Syria and endemic corruption in the ranks of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), an increasing number of families are seeking refuge in the areas controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Sheikhmous Ahmed, the head of the AANES’s Office of Displaced Affairs, disclosed to the Hawar News Agency that a wave of displacement is occurring among the indigenous peoples from the occupied city of Tel Abyad and its surrounding countryside in north of Raqqa.
Ahmed further explained that the Turkish occupation aims to displace the rightful inhabitants from their homes, replace them with others, and induce a demographic shift in the region, thereby altering its identity. He stated that over 550 families have sought shelter in the Tel al-Samen camp located north Raqqa.
Ahmed called upon the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to take a firm stance against the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation and urged them to provide support to AANES in accommodating and assisting the displaced families.
