Assassination attempt on Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian owner of company Wild Tiger sparks calls for justice in Nohadra, Iraq
NOHADRA, Iraq — Raed Aziz Hanna, the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian owner of Wild Tiger, the company that produces the widely popular Wild Tiger Energy Drink, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt last Thursday while en route to Nohadra (Duhok), Kurdistsan Region of Iraq (KRI). Two assailants in a car carried out the attack.
The Political Bureau of the Abnaa al-Nahrain swiftly responded, urging the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to take decisive actions to deter individuals who pose a threat to the security and safety of citizens.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party called for the strict application of the law, the pursuit of justice, and the directive of executive bodies to fulfill their legal duties. The party also demanded intervention to curb the influence of powerful figures within the government.
Highlighting the potential consequences of such incidents, the statement underscored the threat they pose to stability and security in the region. It further noted the risk of displacement faced by the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people, a group ostensibly protected by those engaging in such destabilizing actions.
This recent attempt follows a May incident where Wild Tiger’s company headquarters in Alqosh was attacked by two individuals who entered the building, threatened company employees, and fired several gun shots at the building. The incident occurred after Hanna filed a lawsuit to collect outstanding debts. Despite a court decision sentencing the perpetrators to three years in prison, the individuals remain at large and have not been apprehended, as indicated in the statement.
