Security forces of North and East Syria make strides in anti-ISIS operation in Al-Hol Camp

AL-HOL, Syria — The Internal Security Forces (ISF) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) announced a number of accomplishments during the third phase of operation “Humanity and Security” aimed at rooting out Islamic State (ISIS) cells in Al-Hol Camp.

Responding to increased ISIS activity within the camp, the ISF, in collaboration with the SDF and the backing of the US-led International Coalition, initiated the third phase of the operation to neutralize recently active ISIS cells.

On the second day of operations, security forces extended their efforts to inspect the foreign women’s sector, identified as one of the most perilous sections of the camp. Notably, during these inspections, military equipment, trench-digging tools, tunnels, and mines were discovered.

A male member of an ISIS disguised as a woman was apprehended in the foreign women’s sector. Disturbingly, women in this sector attacked teams responsible for renewing camp residents’ records, attempting to set fire to the points before intervention by the Internal Security Forces.

Press teams accompanying the operation were also assaulted by women and children associated with ISIS terrorists. They threw stones at journalists and employed sharp metal tools, resulting in injuries to correspondent from Ronahi TV Suleiman al-Taweel.

Providing insights into the Al-Hol operation, Director of the SDF Media Center Farhad Shami emphasized that the third phase will persist until its objectives are accomplished. Shami underscored the perilous nature of Al-Hol, likening it to the volatile Al-Sinaa Prison that holds former ISIS fighters.
