Criminal gang stealing Nineveh antiquities arrested by Iraqi authorities
NINEVEH, Iraq — A joint security force of the Nineveh Governorate Police Command, in cooperation with the Nineveh Federal Courts of Appeal, arrested a gang stealing antiquities.
The three-member gang was arrested while trying to sell three stolen antiquities in Nineveh.
Spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior Brigadier General Mekdad Miri stated that the operation was carried out after receiving accurate information about a gang trying to sell antiquities in Mosul worth approximately 900 million Iraqi Dinars, roughly 670,000 EUR.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the Nineveh Police set up several sting operations to arrest the suspects and seize artifacts in their possession.
