Syriac Union Party prepares for municipal elections in North and East Syria, encourages active participation
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — As the municipal elections in North and East Syrian draw near, Sanharib Barsom, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP), announced that the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) has scheduled the elections for 11 June. In a statement to SyriacPress, Barsom detailed the party’s preparations and encouraged the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community to actively participate.
Barsom emphasized that the Syriac Union Party has finalized its list of candidates for the elections across all regions where Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) reside. He highlighted the party’s efforts to communicate with various regional parties and coordinate with the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) to ensure a smooth electoral process and fair candidate selection.
Calling on the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community to engage in the elections, Barsom underscored the importance of their participation in electing representatives who will voice their concerns and interests within DAARNES. He stressed that the success of the electoral process and the effective representation of the community in all municipalities are collective responsibilities that all members of the community share.
Barsom concluded by expressing confidence in the community’s commitment to ensuring their voices are heard and their representation in local governance is secured through these upcoming elections.
