Israel bombs Houthi stronghold in Yemen following drone attack on Tel Aviv

HODEIDAH, Yemen — Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen have launched attacks targeting Israeli territory, the latest being a drone strike on Tel Aviv. In response, Israel conducted a powerful retaliatory strike.

The Israeli Army announced it bombed military targets in Hodeidah, Yemen, a Houthi stronghold, in retaliation for hundreds of Houthi air threats in recent months.

Israeli Army spokesman Daniel Hagari stated that the port attacked by Israeli aircraft is a main supply route for Iranian weapons from Iran to Yemen. Hagari emphasized that the Israeli Army conducted the attack independently, notifying its allies prior to the operation.

The Saudi Defense Ministry stated it had no involvement in the attack on Hodeidah and stressed that it will not allow its airspace to be breached.

Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon described the Israeli attack as marking a dangerous escalation. Hezbollah noted that the attack signifies a critical turn in the confrontation, following more than nine months of heightened tensions amid the ongoing Gaza Strip war.
