Head of Tay Tribal Council advocates for expanded amnesty in North and East Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In comments to SyriacPress, Sheikh Hassan Farhan al-Abdul Rahman, head of the Tayy Tribal Council, confirmed efforts to expand the recent amnesty issued by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).

Speaking at the release of pardoned prisoners at Alaya Prison in Zalin (Qamishli), Sheikh Rahman emphasized the ongoing push to increase the number of those included in the amnesty. He stated that he has been advocating for nearly a year, through various internal and external meetings, for the release of detainees who have not committed violent crimes. Al-Farhan described the amnesty decision as a beacon of hope for the region, underscoring the community’s commitment to loyalty and peace.

The People’s Democratic Council of North and East Syria issued the general amnesty on 17 July, following the outcomes of the second National Unity of Syrian Clans and Components Forum held in Hasakah last May.
