Administration of North and East Syria releases 1,500 detainees under Amnesty Law

HASAKAH, North and East Syria — In line with the Amnesty Law adopted by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNRES), the Social Justice Council, in collaboration with the Internal Security Forces (ISF), has released another group of detainees in the city of Hasakah. This latest batch included 50 individuals who had not committed violent offenses, bringing the total number of those released since July to over 1,100.

In comments to Syriac Press, Sheikh Hamad Sheikh Shahadah of the Naim Tribe expressed gratitude for the amnesty, which he said was a direct result of the National Unity Forum for Syrian Clans and Components. He praised the political and military leadership of DAARNES for responding to the appeals of tribal leaders to grant clemency to those who had not committed serious crimes.

Sheikh Shahadah also mentioned that discussions had taken place with the families of those released, emphasizing the importance of reintegrating them into society and monitoring their future behavior. He revealed that more detainees would be released soon, although the exact number was not specified.

Duran al-Hashemi, Director of the Internal Security Forces Relations Office in North and East Syria, explained to Syriac Press that the amnesty was granted under specific conditions, primarily that the detainees had not participated in shedding Syrian blood. He confirmed that approximately 1,500 detainees from across North and East Syria would be released in total. Al-Hashemi also highlighted the role of regional tribal sheikhs and notables as guarantors for those released, noting the ongoing coordination between these community leaders and the authorities.

Amnesty Law No. 10 was enacted following a public meeting on July 17, which brought together representatives from DAARNES, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The decision came in response to the demands voiced by tribal leaders during the second National Unity Forum for Syrian Tribes and Components.
