Syriac Orthodox Church in Södertälje welcome delegation of Church of Sweden
SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden — In the Swedish city of Södertälje, Syriac Orthodox Church in Sweden Archbishop Mor Dioscorus Benjamin Ataş and Bishop Mor Yohanoun Lahdou of the Diocese of Sweden and Scandinavia welcomed a delegation from the Church of Sweden Archbishop Martin Modéus.
The visit was coordinated by the committees of the Mor Ephrem and Mor Yacob churches.
During the visit, Archbishop Ataş expressed gratitude to Archbishop Modéus for his efforts in fostering strong relations between the two Churches. As a token of appreciation, Archbishop Ataş and Bishop Lahdou presented Bishop Modéus with a cross.
The delegation, which included representatives from the Church of Sweden, toured the church hall and paused at the memorial dedicated to the martyrs of the 1915 Sayfo Genocide. Bishop Modéus, the 71st Bishop of the Church of Sweden, represents a religious institution with roots dating back to 1164. This visit marks another step in deepening the bond between the Swedish and Syriac Orthodox communities.
