Syriac–Assyrian Martyrs’ Families Foundation of North and East Syria holds 5th conference

ZALIN, North and East Syria — Under the slogan “With the Spirit and Blood of Martyrs, We Uphold Homeland’s Freedom and Dignity,” the Syriac–Assyrian Martyrs’ Families Foundation in Syria held its 5th conference in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria.

The event was attended by families of martyrs from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and other groups, alongside representatives from the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) and officials from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).

The conference commenced with a minute of silence to honor the souls of the martyrs. Scouts from the Syriac Cultural Association performed a musical tribute in their memory.

Keynote speeches followed, beginning with Syriac–Assyrian Martyrs’ Families Foundation Co-Chair Yakub Daoud, Martyrs’ Families Council Co-Chair Masum Hassan of Gozarto (Jazira) Canton, and Avin Sweid, Co-Chair of the DAARNES Executive Council. All speeches paid tribute to the martyrs, praising their sacrifices for the homeland and the protection of its people. They reaffirmed the importance of continued unity and solidarity among the peoples until freedom and dignity are fully achieved.

The event also featured congratulatory messages from various political, social, cultural, and military institutions representing the Syriac people. A documentary was shown highlighting the sacrifices made by MUB martyrs in Syria.

Towards the conclusion, the Martyrs’ Families Council presented a commemorative gift to the Syriac–Assyrian Martyrs’ Families Foundation. Four new members were elected to the Conference Board, which began reviewing the Foundation’s report from the last two years and outlining the program for the next two years.

Attendees discussed the bylaw and proposed suggestions through active interventions. A General Council of 15 members was elected, followed by the election of new Co-Chairs, before the final conference statement was read.
