Final results of Kurdistan Region Parliamentary elections announced, KDP secures 39 seats

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — During a press conference in Erbil, Omar Ahmed, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, announced the final results of the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

The elections, held on 20 October, involved 7,070 polling stations, with a voter turnout of 72.6%. According to the official results, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) won 39 seats, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) secured 23 seats. The New Generation Movement received 15 seats, the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) won 7 seats, and the National Stance Movement (Halwest) gained 4 seats. Additionally, the Kurdistan Justice Group (Komal) won 3 seats, the People’s Front (Baray Gal) received 2 seats, the Kurdistan Region Coalition 1 seat, and the Change Movement (Gorran) 1 seat.

The Baray Gal, Halwest, Komal, and KIU parties have contested the election outcomes, citing fraud and tampering. They’ve raised concerns about the voting machines’ reliability and promised to reveal proof of the alleged misconduct in the near future.

The results also included the Christian quota seats, with Rami Nuri Danial winning in Erbil, James Hasdo Haido Daoud in Nohadra (Duhok), and Dana Namanij Najib Shamoun in Sulaymaniyah.
