Political parties of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people call for participation in 2024 general population census in Iraq to prove their demographic presence

ERBIL — The Iraqi government decided to conduct the 2024 general population census.

This step was supported by the five political parties of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people, including the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union in Iraq (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) which issued a statement about the importance of this step to build a sustainable development project.

“This step helps government agencies in preparing service projects, as well as covering population growth and its needs in various fields of life,” the HBA statement declared.

The parties also praised this important step at the Iraqi national level. They confirmed their readiness to participate in the committees concerned with representing the people of different regions, pointing to the adoption of the 1957 population census as a guarantor basis for the registration of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people and all the displaced people from the Nineveh Plain, as well as the areas covered by the Article 140 of the permanent Iraqi Constitution.

The five political parties also called on Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people to actively participate in the general population and housing census, as part of the national duty and the essential contribution to drawing a better future for Iraq.

The parties called on Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian resident of the Nineveh Governorate who are in other Iraqi governorates to stay in their native areas on the census days and register there, because of the great national importance.
