Progressive Syriac Youth Union Co-Chair Issa advocates for community rights and inclusivity in new Syria during Daramsuq visit

DARAMSUQ — Standing outside the Syrian Parliament building in Daramsuq (Damascus), Co-Chair of the Progressive Syriac Youth Union Mariana Issa, also a member of the Legislative Council in the Gozarto (Jazira) Region and a representative of the Syriac Strategic Studies Center, delivered a statement to Syriac Press regarding a visit by a delegation from the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) institutions to the Syrian capital. The delegation aimed to assess the realities and needs of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community following the fall of the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad.

Issa highlighted the delegation’s commitment to understanding the community’s conditions and noted a sense of openness in their meetings in Daramsuq. “We observed an acceptance of new ideas and proposals, as well as ambitions and readiness among our people to contribute to building a new Syria that respects the presence of all its components,” she remarked.

She emphasized that supporting and protecting the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community, along with Christians in general, remain top priorities for MUB institutions. Issa underscored the need to empower Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) youth, who will bear the responsibility of shaping Syria’s future and integrating into state institutions and public life.

According to Issa, the visit sought to accelerate the community’s objectives, including securing a pivotal role in Syria’s future governance. Key goals include achieving legal recognition of their rights in the new constitution, preserving their language, heritage, and presence, and contributing to the creation of a pluralistic, democratic, and decentralized Syria.

Issa concluded her remarks with holiday greetings for Christmas and the New Year, expressing hope for a future marked by peace and prosperity for Syria and all its peoples.
