Syriac Strategic Research Center Consultant Barsom Barsom calls for including Social Contract in Syrian Constitution
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In comments to our news desk, the Consultant of the Syriac Strategic Research Center (SSRC) Barsom Barsom highlighted the critical situation experienced by the Syriacs (Arameans-Chaldeans-Assyrians) and the rest of the Syrian components.
He expressed widespread concern about the recent decisions issued by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
“The Syriacs, along with other ethnic components, feel optimistic about the future. Meanwhile, they are anxious due to exclusionary policies and new practices,” Barsom stated.
Barsom declared that the HTS attempts to impose a unified color on the educational and judicial systems, as well as replace the Baath regime rhetoric with an extremist ideology rhetoric, which is unacceptable.
He called for recognizing the Syriac people as an indigenous part of the Syrian fabric, and ensuring their rights to preserve their language, history and cultural identity.
He pointed out that the Social Contract of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) represents a legal framework that guarantees the rights of all ethnic components and depends on decentralized governance, adding that it is based on international treaties on human rights and indigenous peoples.
Barsom stressed the need to launch joint programs between all ethnic components of Syrian society to build a secular and decentralized democratic state, and ensure that all ethnic and religious groups obtain their rights within a stable and inclusive Syria, “Barsom continued.
He called on the Syrian people to resist the exclusionary policies, and stressed the vital role of the Social Contract in shaping a democratic future that achieves justice and unity for all Syrians.
