Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Aphrem II and Vatican Cardinal Gugerotti advocate for equality and citizenship rights in Syria
DARAMSUQ — On Saturday evening, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II hosted Roman Catholic Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti and his accompanying delegation. The meeting underscored the principle of equality in citizenship to guarantee the rights of all components of Syrian society.
Held at the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate in Daramsuq (Damascus), the meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Secretary of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches Archbishop Michel Jalakh, Cardinal Gugerotti’s private secretary Father Emmanuel Sabbadakh, Apostolic Nuncio to Syria Cardinal Mario Zenari, and Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature Father Victor Filaturo.
Representing the Syriac Orthodox Church were Patriarchal Assistant Archbishop Mor Youssef Bali and Patriarchal Secretary Archbishop Mor Ouken Naamat.
