Syriac Union Party delegation visits Father Polycarpos of St. Elias Church to support Christians in Wadi al-Nasara

HMOTH, Syria — On Tuesday, a delegation from the Syriac Union Party (SUP) visited Father Polycarpos, the pastor of St. Elias Church in Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of Christians), to discuss unifying the Christian discourse, documenting violations against Christians, and encouraging youth involvement in the community.

The delegation, comprising Maryana Issa, Suhail Bahho, and Farid Soumi, was warmly received by Father Polycarpos. He expressed gratitude for their visit, commending their efforts to support the Christian community and document ongoing challenges. The delegation, in turn, thanked Father Polycarpos for his hospitality and emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation during this critical period.

Advocating for a Unified Christian Message and Documenting Abuses

The meeting centered on the need for a unified Christian discourse in Syria to confront challenges and address violations against Christians. The delegation and Father Polycarpos stressed that presenting a united stance would reflect community solidarity, strengthen their position, and appeal to the international community for decisive action to protect Christian rights.

Both parties highlighted the importance of systematically documenting violations against Christians to raise global awareness and advocate for justice. The delegation underscored that collaborating with relevant organizations to record these incidents is a vital first step toward accountability and providing legal support to affected individuals.



Empowering Youth in Wadi al-Nasara

Father Polycarpos emphasized the pivotal role of youth in strengthening the Christian community. He encouraged the delegation to prioritize initiatives that actively engage young people, proposing events and activities to empower them. The delegation agreed, noting that empowering youth would foster stability and prosperity, particularly in light of current economic and social challenges.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to future collaboration between the church and the SUP. Plans include organizing workshops and dialogue sessions for women and youth to foster understanding and cooperation within the Christian community. Additionally, they discussed the importance of community projects aimed at improving infrastructure and essential services in the valley, which would enhance residents’ quality of life.
