European Syriac Union supports call by Patriarch John X Yazigi for Christian conference in Syria
BRUSSELS — The European Syriac Union (ESU) reaffirmed its commitment to unity and peace in a recent statement emphasizing the historical and cultural significance of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) following the call by Patriarch of the Greek (Rûm) Orthodox Church of Antioch Mor John X Yazigi for a Christian conference to be held in Syria.
“The history of Beth Nahrin is our history,” the ESU stated. “We have always walked through the history of Beth Nahrin for the sake of peace. When we are united, no one can extinguish our light, and hope will always remain with us to achieve freedom for our people and other communities coexisting side by side in Beth Nahrin.”
The ESU expressed its support for the Patriarch’s call to convene a comprehensive conference for Christian parties, churches, and institutions in Syria.
“The ESU supports and works for our people to remain united and stand side by side, as well as to become a beacon of peace in our homeland, Beth Nahrin,” the statement read.
Reiterating the importance of solidarity, the ESU added, “We are strong when we are united, and hand in hand, we can write a new history — a history of freedom for our people in Beth Nahrin.”
The ESU’s statement reflects its ongoing dedication to fostering unity and collaboration among Christian communities and their allies in the pursuit of peace and freedom in the region.
