Member of Syrian Democratic Forces killed in ISIS a Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), North and East Syria
DAYRO ZCURO, North and East Syria — The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported that an Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist cell targeted one of its military vehicles in the Abu Hamam area of the Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) countryside, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in northern Syria.
The assault resulted in violent clashes, leading to the martyrdom of an SDF member and injuries to three others. The SDF responded with force, intensifying confrontations with the attackers.
The attack took place in Abu Hamam, approximately 45 kilometers from the Iraqi border. The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by ISIS in the region, despite ongoing efforts to dismantle the group.
In an official statement, the SDF reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing remaining ISIS militants and maintaining security and stability in the region. They vowed a decisive response to the terrorist attack, reiterating their resolve to counter ongoing threats.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), ISIS has carried out 84 attacks in North and East Syria since the start of 2024, resulting in significant casualties among both military personnel and civilians.
Separately, the SOHR noted that the US-led International Coalition has initiated preparations to evacuate key sites, including the Al-Omar oil field and the Koniko gas facility, signaling potential shifts in the operational dynamics of the region.
The incident further highlights the fragile security situation in northern Syria, as ISIS continues its attempts to exploit vulnerabilities despite sustained counterterrorism efforts.
