Syriac writer Besim Aydin releases new children’s book
STOCKHOLM — Syriac writer Besim Aydin, who lives in Sweden, has published a new bilingual children’s book titled “The Little Star and the Big Journey“, featuring illustrations and text in both Syriac and Swedish.
Aydin, known for his works on the 1915 Sayfo Genocide and Syriac heritage cuisine, has expanded his repertoire with this latest release. The book combines short, simple sentences in Syriac and Swedish with vibrant, colorful artwork, chronicling the adventures of a small star on a grand journey.
Aimed at children aged 6 to 12, the story weaves themes of courage, friendship, dreams and imagination.
Aydin described the book as a tool to connect young readers with their cultural roots while fostering bilingual literacy. It is available for purchase on (www.arjovi.se) which specializes in Syriac literature and educational materials.
Aydin’s prior works include graphic novels set during the Sayfo Genocide, cookbooks celebrating traditional Syriac dishes and other children’s stories designed to preserve and share his community’s heritage.
