SDC stresses need for peaceful resolution and inclusive dialogue during Syria’s transitional period

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Presidential Body of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), led by Co-Chair Leyla Qaraman, held a meeting to discuss recent political developments at the national, regional, and international levels, focusing on the need for constructive approaches to resolve ongoing crises.

Participants criticized regional actors for intensifying tensions and obstructing political initiatives, actions they argued undermine stability and peace in Syria. Qaraman highlighted the critical issues facing Syria, including threats to civil peace, the rise of hate speech, and the absence of mechanisms for transitional justice. She emphasized that only through dialogue, mutual understanding, and negotiation can the crisis be overcome and long-term stability achieved.

Qaraman reiterated the SDC’s commitment to advancing political initiatives and formulating national strategies aimed at building a democratic state that represents the aspirations of all Syrians. She stressed the importance of prioritizing the protection of Syria’s diverse societal components, which she believes is achievable only through inclusive national dialogue.

The meeting also recognized the recent agreement between General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi and the Head of the Syrian Transitional Government (STG) Ahmad al-Sharaa as a significant milestone in launching a comprehensive political process. The SDC described the agreement as a bridge toward addressing divisions and fostering a sustainable political settlement.

Participants reaffirmed their support for decentralization as a cornerstone of resolving Syria’s crisis, urging expanded alliances with democratic entities across the country. They called for collaborative efforts to guide Syria toward a unified and democratic future, underlining the necessity of collective action in achieving meaningful transformation.
