Syrian Democratic Forces arrests member of cell linked to foreign intelligence agency
HASAKAH, North and East Syria — The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have arrested a member of a cell connected to an foreign intelligence agency, without mentioning any information about the cell or the agency.
According to a statement published on the SDF’s official website, their military operational teams carried out a precision security operation aimed at dismantling a cell tied to a foreign intelligence agency operating in Hasakah, North and East Syria.
The operation was launched after monitoring the movements of one of the cell’s members, Manhal Abbas al-Ali, also known as Abu Mut’ab.
After gathering sufficient intelligence and pinpointing his hideout, SDF surrounded the location and arrested him.
The statement described the cell’s activities, which included armed robbery and looting, as well as terrorizing civilians by randomly firing gunshots in residential areas to spread fear and disrupt public safety, in addition to targeting SDF checkpoints in an attempt to destabilize the region, undermine trust in local security forces and threaten civil peace.
